The Ramsgate Tunnels, in the seaside town of Ramsgate in Thanet, east Kent, have been transformed from a derelict railway line and bomb shelter into an exhibition space, café and tourist attraction through the hard work of volunteers.
Sailors’ Church and Harbour Mission. It was built in 1878 to provide spiritual guidance to the crews of the sailing smacks operating out of Ramsgate, particularly the young apprentices known as ‘Smack Boys’. There were rooms above the chapel where the boys could stay in relative comfort when ashore. The church also provided refuge for the survivors of shipwrecks.
Ramsgate Main Sands is a popular sandy beach surrounded by high chalk cliffs and adjacent to the picturesque Royal Harbour and marina, with plenty of options for ice cream and fish and chips.
Set in the heart of the country's only Royal Harbour, the Museum building is an exhibit in its own right, being the product of some of the most eminent civil engineers and architects of the early 19th century.
Ramsgate's No. 1 Family Attraction. Open 364 Days from 10am! There is something for every age group; racing games, 2p pushers, crane grabbers and much more!
